The last day before the holidays at De Vries Cornjum always has two sides. On the one hand, the yard buzzes with activity: the final frame for our new machine type is still being welded and carefully finished, parts are neatly returned to the shelves, and the first machines are already loaded and ready to go. Meanwhile, the polished vans and trucks wait patiently in line, as if catching their breath after a busy spring.
On the other hand, you feel a quiet sense of satisfaction everywhere. After a season full of wrenching, planning, test runs, and the first meters in the field, it’s now time to pause for a moment. The frames of our new machine type have been sent to the powder coater and will return after the holidays in a fresh, solid finish. Our fleet stands clean and ready in the yard, set to head back into the fields soon. The schedule for the upcoming mowing season is already largely in place, so we can hit the ground running.
This afternoon, everyone heads home briefly to freshen up before gathering around 18:00 at the long tables for the barbecue. It's more than just a fun closing moment; it's when big stories are shared, new plans are born, and successes are celebrated. There’s laughter, reflection, and looking ahead — with a soda or beer in hand and a pride you can almost touch.
As an extra thank you, our regular field staff will receive a De Vries travel trolley this year. Not because we have to, but because we know how important it is to carry your things properly, especially when you’re away from home for weeks in places you'd otherwise never go.
Tomorrow, the first colleagues head off for their well-deserved holidays. We’ll be closed for three weeks and ready again on Monday 4 August — as always, early, but full of energy and eager to get going together.
At De Vries Cornjum, you don’t just work with impressive machines. You help build something bigger: a team that keeps each other sharp, makes progress together, and ends the day at the barbecue together. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible — and who knows, maybe next year you’ll join us at the table.
